LANDSCAPE TIPS
There are two good reasons to
plant shrubs and trees this
month. First, they will develop
their root system over the Winter
and second, to take advantage
of any free water, aka rain.
Remember to wait to plant
tropicals until the Spring, after
the threat of frost has past.
Start re-seeding cool season turf
such as Fescue and Blue Grass
now. Bermuda grass is
beginning to go dormant, so
over-seeding with rye grass can
be done at this time. Remember
to reset your mower blades to
mow these grasses shorter - a
height of about 1 inches is
recommended.
Now is a good time to cut back
zonal geraniums. Trimming
them by about half will
encourage new Winter growth as
well as flowering. Leave several
healthy leaves on each stem and
cut above the joint. Bare stubs
will not recover. Ivy geranium
that is growing on the ground can
be cut back slightly, cleaned up,
have mulch added and then
fertilized with a fertilizer such as
Nitra-King 22-3-9.
PLEASE REVIEW
CONDITION OF YOUR LAWN & TREES
Recent inspections of the
community has revealed a number
of trees with limbs which are
overhanging sidewalks. Please
inspect your property to insure that
trees belonging to you are not
causing a hazardous condition.
